Web Design / Flash Animation / Illustration
Multimedia Design and Animation.
Having spent the first part of my life sketching and drawing relentlessly there seemed little option when it came to choosing a career that design would be where I would wind up. I opted to study animation at Dun Laoghaire Institite of Art, Design and Technology over other disciplines simply because at the time a lot of major animation studios like Murakami Wolf and Sullivan Bluth had opened studios in Dublin.
By the time I'd completed the course they had all closed but the IT boom in this country meant opportunities were opening up for someone who was interested enough to learn the techniques involved in web design. At that time I cam into the industry primarily as an animator. I'd been taught classical and experimental animation for four years and produced two short films so it was Flash that called to me above anything else.
After a short but highly useful course at Arthouse in Temple Bar studying New Media Creative Design I set out working for companies like X-Communications and Sexton Design, learning as I went. To this day this is still the major attraction for me about this line of work, the constant learning, the enormous rate the industry and technology changes at and how hard you have to work to try and keep up.
Apart from this, dealing with people; clients, suppliers and colleagues, in a creative and challenging environment seems to me about as good a job as you could hope to ask for. The body of work I've built up in this time continues to evolve with what I learn and what inspires me.
